Women empowerment in simple words can be understood as giving power to women to decide for their own lives or inculcating such abilities in them so that they could be able to find their rightful place in the society.
Women empowerment adds to confidence of women in their ability to lead meaningful and purposeful lives. It remove their dependence on others and make them individual in their own right. They are able to make meaningful contribution to the well being of the society and act as a capable citizens to make the country achieve enhanced gross domestic product(GDP) growth. It gives them a distinct identity and they become financial independent , they are able to spend all their needs and desires.
As talking about the mean of empowerment of women, firstly the education played a significant role in empowering the women section of society. Without proper and adequate education, women can’t become empowered individual they need to be encouraged for higher education. Women must have to develop their skills specially communication skill to effectively raise their voice against their rights. Women also need to earn well to have their say in important financial decisions governing their lives.
Savitribai Phule is considered to be one of the pioneers of the feminist movement in india as she started the first-ever school for girls in the country in 1848 at Bhide Wada, Pune. Mother Teresa, Kalpana Chawala, Mary Kom, Priyanka Chopra and many more women who raise the concept of women empowerment and give a great paradigm to our country.
If we want to bring about women empowerment in the true sense, there is a crying need for the elimination of the male superiority and patriarchal mindset. Also, women need to be given equal opportunities for education and employment without any sense of discrimination. Unless there is attitudinal change in society towards women.
